Still Life
2015 · Six-channel CGI video installation, color and sound
Still Life reimagines a classical genre for the age of the screen. Across six monitors, rendered arrangements of laptops, photographs, tropical plants, ornamental figurines, and a clock take the place of fruit, flowers, and skulls, composing the desktop as a contemporary tableau of everyday objects and images.
Connected by exposed cables to the computer that generates them, the screens make visible the infrastructure behind the image. Still Life considers how digital life is arranged, displayed, and consumed, and how, like the vanitas paintings it recalls, its abundance of objects quietly measures the passing of time.
